A series of leaks have revealed that a redesigned GoPro Hero camera is on the way. Although a new camera launch was expected from GoPro in September anyway, this leak has revealed some precise details. Citing Chinese sources, Photo Rumors has posted leaked photos, and the expected specifications for the new flagship action camera from GoPro called the Hero 8. We expect these rumors to be true. We’ll talk about the expected release date, price, features, and how the rumored features in GoPro Hero 8 compare with the current ones in GoPro Hero 7.
1Expected Release Date
GoPro has a history of releasing a new flagship Hero camera every year in September. GoPro Hero 6 Black was introduced on September 28, 2017, and the GoPro Hero 7 Black on September 30, 2018. So, if Chinese sources are to be believed and history repeats itself, the GoPro Hero 8 action camera may be announced sometime in September 2019. Once announced, it could be available globally October onward.
GoPro has announced the event on October, 1. Hero8 seems to be launched then.
Are you eager to start watching it?
2Expected Launch Price
GoPro Hero 8 Black is going to face fierce competition from DJI Osmo Action which currently sells for $349. So, looking at that, we expect the GoPro Hero 8 Black to be priced at the same price point of $399 as their current flagship model Hero 7 Black.
In May 2019, GoPro’s CEO, Nick Woodman, mentioned that they were planning to refresh the product range across all price points. So we expect two cheaper models – Hero 8 White at $199 and Hero 8 Silver at $299 to be launched alongside the flagship model.
The new GoPro Hero 8 is rumored to come with an improved lens with the ability to shoot 4K videos at 120 fps and Full HD videos at 480 fps. That’s nearly double the max frame rate of Hero 7! The flagship action camera is expected to have a 12-megapixel sensor with refined image quality and a bigger microphone.
According to the leaked images, the GoPro Hero 8 will have a brand new design with optional housing to mount accessories like an LED light, microphone, external screen, etc. The processor could be upgraded to the new GP2 processor which would mean better image and video stabilization, superior color accuracy, and improved digital zoom. That’s a lot of improvement over the previous model!
4Hero 8 compare to Hero 7
When it comes to GoPro Hero 7, it could do better in terms of stabilization and sound quality. If the new GP2 processor can provide improved low-light video stabilization and ‘HyperSmooth’ videos with HDR, it will be worth upgrading.
A bigger microphone will boost the sound quality, and a higher frame rate means better performance and some fantastic slow-motion videos. If these rumored features are what we get in the new GoPro Hero 8, it will also have the edge over the DJI Osmo Action.
